BMW hood emblem, roundel, replacement:

Like every plastic car part exposed to the elements, over time it will crack, fade, weather and or fall apart.   The BMW hood emblem is no exception.  The most obvious sign of aging is the colors will lose vibrancy from the UV sun rays.  Luckily, a new BMW hood emblem is reasonably cheap for an OEM replacement. The total installation process takes 10-15 minutes.

The standard hood emblem size is 82mm in diameter, however your model may vary. Please make sure you order the correct size, you can check your car's original part number through

.  Worst case you can just remove the old emblem and get the original part number off the back.

We highly recommend replacing the emblem with an original OEM BMW part.  The quality is far superior to any cheap knock off emblem you can purchase on eBay.  Although the cheaper price of the fake emblem may enticing, it will age in the elements even quicker and need replacement quicker. With this in mind, save yourself the time upfront and do it right, get an original BMW hood emblem.

What is the process?

It is optional to tape the surrounding hood area of the emblem to protect the paint during the removal process.  Another protective option is to use a cloth under the pry tool eliminate the possibility of scratches.  Finding the right pry tool is critical to making the removal process easier.  The tip needs to be very thin to get under the emblem.  If you have a flat head screw driver thin enough, we recommend taping the tip with masking tape to ensure you do not scratch your paint. See the pictures below for further clarification.

Start by prying up the old emblem, work your way around the emblem until it starts to lift up evenly.  Once it is lifted up high enough for you to pick up with your fingers,just grab and pull.

The underside has two mounting tabs which are inserted into plastic grommets.  These two grommets should be replaced along with the emblem. The grommets dry out and crack, which will make the emblem loose. A loose hood emblem has the possibility to allow the emblem to fly off while driving.

To remove the plastic grommets take a needle nose pliers and pull them out.  With the hood emblem and both grommets removed now is a good time to clean the hood.  It is likely dirt, sand and or salt was trapped under the old emblem from typical driving conditions.

Once the hood is cleaned, begin to install the new grommets by pushing them in place.  Now, take the new BMW hood emblem and align the tabs down on the new grommets. It should fit snuggly with no gaps between the emblem edges and the hood.  Installation is now complete.

BMW Stick on Center Cap Emblem Replacement:

The iconic BMW roundel featuring the blue and white colors of the Bavarian flag is undeniably the most recognizable feature of any BMW.  Over time, the center caps can fade from UV, fly off from the breakdown of adhesive or corrode from salt.  Keep your wheels fresh by replacing worn BMW center caps.

There are two main styles of BMW center caps.  The older style has the stick on adhesive emblems.  These come in numerous sizes and fit numerous wheel styles on most all BWM models from the 1980s through 2000s.  Modern day BMW wheels have the snap in center caps, which we will cover in a later post.  This post focuses on the older, stick on style.

Before ordering a new set, make sure to measure your old emblem.  They came in a range of sizes depending on the size and age of the wheel.  The common diameter sizes are 58mm, 64.5mm & 70mm.

To remove an old emblem, simply pry up on it until it peels off.  Depending on how stuck it is, you may be able to use your finger or you may need a pry tool.  Careful not to scratch the center cap in the process.  Once the emblem is removed, discard the old center cap.  If there is any adhesive remaining on the wheel, use goo-gone or rubbing alcohol to ensure the cap is entirely clean from oils, adhesives or particles.

Apply the new stick on BWM emblem by removing the adhesive backing and centering it over the recessed wheel cap.  Make sure to only grab it by the edges.  Touching the sticky underside will cause oils from your fingers to transfer to the adhesive.  This will weaken the holding power of the adhesive.

BMW MTech steering wheel badge / emblem replacement:

One of the most recognizable features of the Mtech 1 steering wheel is the iconic BMW Motorsport colored badge on the middle spoke. This badge or emblem is stuck on the wheel with adhesive. Over time this badge can fade, scratch or completely fall off. Luckily, BMW still makes the original badge and can be ordered online or at the dealer for around $20 - $25. Replacing this badge with a new factory replacement will bring back vibrancy to your Mtech 1 sport steering wheel.

If your BMW MTech steering wheel badge is still in place but worn, just pick at it with your fingers and peel it off. Once removed, used goo gone or rubbing alcohol to clean off any residual adhesive. Make sure the surface is completely clean of any oils or residue before applying the new emblem.

Apply the new BMW M stripe badge by pealing off the backing. Make sure to not touch the sticky part with your fingers, this will transfer oil onto the back. If any oil or dirt gets on the back, the emblem will not fully stick to the steering wheel. Make sure to install the BMW M stripe emblem in the correct direction with the Blue Stripe toward the left side of the wheel.

BMW M badge replacement, steering wheel:

BMW Mtech 2 steering wheels have an M badge located on the middle spoke.  Over time this badge can crack, fade, scratch or just fall out.  Luckily, BMW still makes the original badge and can be ordered online or at the dealer for around $20.  Replacing this badge with a new factory replacement will bring back some vibrancy to your sport steering wheel.

The badge is pressed in place by two posts protruding from the rear of the badge.  If your worn badge is still existing, take a non metallic pry tool or a metallic screw driver with the end taped and pry off the old badge.  Installation of the new badge is done by simply pressing the new badge in place to where the posts are inserted in the existing post holes.

BMW steering wheel emblem replacement:

The removal process is one of the easiest procedures to perform.  Simply grab a non metallic pry tool such as one for removing interior trim or take a flat head screwdriver and wrap the end in tape.  The purpose of the non metallic tool is to not scuff your rubber steering wheel.

Press down on the edge of the badge and slide the pry tool under the emblem and pry it up.  The emblem will pop out of place quite easily.  Remove the emblem with the replacement part by centering the emblem on the wheel and pressing it in place.
